FIANCE’S VISA UK
A UK Fiancé(e) Visa allows a non-UK national who is engaged to a qualifying UK-based sponsor to enter the UK for 6 months in order to get married or form a civil partnership. After marriage, the applicant is expected to switch to a UK Spouse or Civil Partner Visa from within the UK.
You cannot work in the UK on a Fiancé(e) Visa.
Who Can Sponsor?
The sponsor must be:
1. British or Irish citizen
2. Or hold one of the following:
Key Requirements
To qualify for a UK Fiancé(e) Visa, you must show:
1. Genuine and subsisting relationship
- Photos, communication, visits, engagement proof, etc.
2. Intent to marry/form civil partnership in the UK within 6 months
- Wedding booking confirmation, venue correspondence, etc.
3. Minimum financial requirement
- Sponsor must earn at least £29,000/year gross OR combined with savings.
4. Adequate accommodation
- Must show non-overcrowded, stable UK housing.
5. English language requirement
A1 level English test (SELT), or:
- National of a majority English-speaking country
- UK degree or degree taught in English
- Age 65+ or certain medical conditions (exemptions apply)
Application Process
- Apply from outside the UK only
- Application is completed online
- Biometrics must be submitted at a UK Visa Application Centre
- Supporting documents uploaded (may vary by country)

- IHS (Immigration Health Surcharge): Not required for Fiancé(e) Visa

After Marriage: What’s Next?
Once married or in a civil partnership:
- Apply to switch to a Spouse or Civil Partner Visa from within the UK
- This gives leave to remain for 30 months, work rights, and leads to Indefinite Leave to Remain after 5 years (standard route)
