SHORT-TERM STUDENT VISA (English Language)
If you’re looking to study English in the UK at an accredited institution, the Short-term Student Visa (English Language) allows you to do so for a course lasting between 6 and 11 months.
This visa is designed specifically for non-UK nationals aged 16 or over who wish to study English language only courses at a UK institution for a period of more than 6 months and up to 11 months.
It is different from the standard Student Visa, as it:
- Only permits English language study
- Does not allow extensions or switching to other visas
- Does not allow work or family dependants
Length of stay: Up to 11 months
Purpose: English language course only
Who Can Apply?
You must:
- Be 16 years or older
- Have an offer of admission to study English at a UK-based accredited institution
- Be able to show you can support yourself financially during your stay
- Intend to leave the UK at the end of your course
- Have suitable accommodation arranged
- Be able to pay for your return travel
- Be from a country outside the UK and Ireland
What Courses Are Eligible?
- Full-time English language courses at an accredited UK institution
- Duration must be longer than 6 months and up to 11 months
- Course must involve intensive English instruction (general, academic, or business)
- This visa does not allow any other subject of study or part-time courses.
What You Can and Cannot Do
You can:
- Study an English language course for 6 to 11 months
- Travel in and out of the UK during your visa validity
You cannot:
- Work or undertake work placement/internships
- Bring dependants (no spouse/children allowed)
- Access public funds (benefits)
- Extend the visa or switch to another UK visa while inside the UK
